Jotted Field Note: Restarting a Project

Identifying an UnFinished Object

The Knitmore Girls call it Area 51 – the place where all the UFOs live.

I’ve been meaning to get back to working on this quilt.

This is an English Paper Pieced quilt I designed myself because my son picked out the jelly roll of rainbow colors and at about that same time I came across these flower patterns you can make with hexagons. Added some patterned centers and white-on-white fabric to complete the look. And I don’t remember why. Maybe I just liked it?

Anyway. At around that same time I also realized I love hand sewing. So here we are.

I pulled everything out to the workspace to make sure I had everything.

Shout out to Past Kit who sketched out enough of a pattern to remind Today Kit what the plan is.

Observations

1. Always take notes so you can pick up where you left off.

I was able to lay out what I have done (not much) and remember what I’m doing next. Miraculous.

2. Hey I still like this! I’m going to keep working on it.

3. There are three oranges in my jelly roll -and two of them are really close in color. I’m worried that on the white background, they won’t look that different. With the alternating flower motif, I think it might look weird. There’s a lot of variation in the other colors/rows.

Next up: finish some white ones to complete the row. Decide if the will be an even or odd number of flowers per row. Count the remaining cut squares to see if that’s even an option.

Thanks for being here! Feel free to adapt the pattern for yourself. I’d love to see what you would choose.
